SUCCESS STORY
The Good News- An Update
- Last month's Success Story featured advocacy efforts spearheaded by Chief David Cahill of Sunapee to change the labeling of a "nutrient enhanced" water product made by Glaceau. David had purchased a case of Vitaminwater for his basket-ball playing teen daughter only to discover that one "flavor" - Revive - had text on the bottle that graphically referred to (heavily) drinking alcohol and using the drink as a cure for a hangover. Contacting the company, David expressed his outrage that a supposedly healthy drink would be marketed by encouraging youth drinking. Rallying others around the state, including the NH Chief's of Police Association, David recently shared an email he received from the CEO, indicating the drink label had been changed and the newly labeled bottles would begin shipping in April!
Still to be clarified is the website page for the product which has yet to be changed and clearly encourages underage drinking. Take a minute and check out www.glaceau.com and Revive's webpage and then, let them know what you think. Congratulations to Chief Cahill and others who contacted Glaceau - your voice made a difference! To contact Chief Cahill, email dcahillspd@nhvt.net

Legislative Update
- Update on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Legislation: Progress being made, more to be done
What kind of progress is being made on alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues so far in the session? Thanks to the hard work of advocates and others, many good things are happening. March 22nd marked crossover day - the last day for the House to act on bills that had originated in the House before sending the bills to the Senate, as well as the last day for the Senate to act on its bills before sending them to the House. If you are interested in seeing a status update of alcohol, tobacco and other drug-related bills that are still pending before the House and Senate, this will be posted soon under the Legislative Section of the New Futures website.

A push for increased national attention to the problem of youth alcohol consumption and misuse that began with an influential report from the National Academies of Science (NAS) in 2003 picked up momentum last month, when U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, M.D., officially announced his intention to issue a Call to Action on underage drinking.
