Participants in the October NAMI Walk

On a misty Sunday morning, October 2, more than 900 people walked together to show support and strengthen partnerships in NAMIWalks 2011, a fundraiser organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness NH. NAMI is a statewide, grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals affected by mental illness or emotional disorders through education, support and advocacy.

The purpose of the walk was to promote awareness of:

  • Mental illness, Treatment and Recovery
  • Suicide prevention, and to
  • STOMP OUT STIGMA!

Team New Futures—staff and friends—all wore Team T-Shirts that read, "Substance Abuse & Mental Illness - Treat Them Together." There were almost as many dogs as humans, as we moved from the New Hampshire Hospital grounds through downtown Concord and back. We think they were more interested in the hot dogs and hamburgers!
