NEW FUTURES STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF SB 234, SYRINGE SERVICE PROGRAMS
Concord, NH – In response to the signing of SB 234, Michele Merritt, Senior Vice President and Policy Director at New Futures issued the following statement.
“After two years of continued advocacy, New Futures is pleased to see the passage of SB 234, which marks a momentous step forward in advancing harm reduction policy in the Granite State. SB 234 is a uniquely New Hampshire solution to reduce communicable diseases among Granite State citizens.
This success comes after tireless work from advocates such as former behavioral health advisor to the governor James Vara, 2016 New Futures Legislator of the Year Joe Hannon, the New Hampshire chiefs of police, as well as many other individual substance use disorder advocates.
New Futures would also like to thank Governor Sununu for signing this critical piece of legislation into law today and allowing New Hampshire to join the rest of New England in this common sense public health solution.”
New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates, educates and collaborates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents through policy change.
